Yesterday, BBB issued
an alert about the legitimacy of a mailing that comes with a check.
Settlement checks are being sent to some Washington State businesses and homes from Williamson and Williams Lawyers, with offices in Seattle and on Bainbridge Island, WA. The checks are real, and people should take this seriously.
Why? It is a class member settlement of a case against Capital Options for violations regarding robo-calls made to Washington State residents and businesses that just wouldn't stop.
What is confusing many people is---they didn't have to have filed a formal complaint or have been pro-active about these calls to have received a settlement check, so these checks are going out to people and they aren't aware of the situation.
This means that some receiving these checks may be tossing them out, not believing that they are real, etc.
Also--there is a warning always attached to such situations: There may be scammers that will attempt to copycat this legitimate mailing by using fake checks. Confirm or verify with RELIABLE SOURCES whenever you receive anything in the mail that is questionable or doesn't jive with your memory, etc. If any official names are being given, contact that source directly to verify or confirm legitimacy, or contact your BBB and we can advise.
