Alert! Alert! Reporting Deadline! 2/28/11

So here I sit at work on a Saturday afternoon, filling out the the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Creditable Coverage Disclosure Report...(I am such a Loser!!!)    But, I'll be brief.....(quick pain vs. slow pain)

This incredibly demented report wants you to disclose if you have any Medicare Eligible employees that you supply with health insurance, specifically drug coverage.  Most of you probably already knew all this, but I didn't.  So why would Medicare want to know this?

By my reading, it would seem that there is a body of regulations referred to as the Medicare Secondary Payer regulations.  The latter state that if a Medicare covered person has employer health insurance, Medicare is the payer of last resort!  Worse, you cannot incentivize a Medicare eligible person to jump off your health insurance onto Medicare to save your company money!  Seriously, they will fine the heck out of you if you do.......

Now if anyone else has another take on this, I'd sure like to hear it.  If you think you might need to report, go to this link and you can complete the report by the February 28th deadline!

This is not going to be my most read blog....but I hope you make the deadline if it applies to you or someone you know!
