Helping Others Seeking Work - A Worthwhile Pursuit!

Rhonda Byrnes' "The Secret" claims that the basic key to everything is attraction - we attract that which is part of our lives.  While I believe that to some extent, I do also believe that sometimes things in life are like the toilet paper on our shoes - they come along for the ride, without our encouragement.  Or, as John Lennon put it once upon a time, "Life is what happens when you're making other plans."

Take for example those who cope daily with disabilities of many kinds, not…

Would you go for the big move?

So I’m actually going to post something slightly serious (yes I heard your “wow you can do that?”) and hopefully gather a intelligible opinion on 1) if this is a good idea and 2) how do I go about doing it. Here it is coming up on a year of unemployment, the field I worked in still shows no signs of improvement (at least as far as I can tell, I don’t have a car to drive and haven’t emailed a former colleague in months…). I did try getting into a very similar industry to this before and was…

Begger's can't be Choosers 2: Free Will Strikes Back

Once again I was roaming the Jobs List on Craigslist... at this point mostly for posterity. I've been forced to come to the realization that engineering firms are simply not interested in dealing with this mess of a drafting pool. Though I've noted that some bloggers are beginning to suggest that companies are intentionally avoiding hiring the unemployed, the idea being that hiring the unemployed is in fact Social Darwinism, in effect the lame and wounded lion will hurt the pride so…

Barriers to Employment

I’ve heard this question in 12 step programs… “How would you describe your rock bottom?”

First of all I feel like just saying that owes a disclaimer. I once went through and served in Celebrate Recovery, a well known Christian 12 Step program by John Baker out of Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church. Personal beliefs aside the reason I went through it in full disclosure, was an attempt to deal with the after affects of what had all ready been professionally diagnosed as illnesses resultant…

BBB JUNE NAMING NAMES AND OTHER TIPS

Hello, from the Desk of BBB Investigator, Zan Deery!

Another busy week, with even a call from DATELINE NBC this very morning about a possible follow up to the Yakama Nation BP Oil Spill Cleanup Recruitment Scheme that targeted them in June, 2010. While speaking with the reporter, we got off on a tangent and began speaking about the magazine sales door-to-door scams that recruit young people, pile them in vans and send them to neighborhoods throughout the US armed with…
