I wonder sometimes whether prospective employers really think before they post job descriptions. Here’s what I’m talking about: a Spokane based international sales and marketing company ran a want ad in Sunday’s edition of the Spokesman Review seeking someone who is creative, a good writer, Internet savvy, understands social media and is adept at search engine optimization. So far so good---sounds like a great job. But here’s the catch: this unidentified company wants you to…

Co-opetition It's the title of a book by Adam Brandenburger (Harvard School of Business) and Barry J.Nalebuff (Yale School of Management) and a business philosophy I've both witnessed and experienced throughout my professional and personal life.
On the cover it describes itself as:
1. A revolutionary mindset that combines competition and cooperation.
2. The Game Theory strategy that's changing the game of business.
It's insightful and…

A customer is a very special person. Of the billions of people on planet Earth, only a tiny fraction have chosen to do business with you. They have selected your business on purpose. It is your constant obligation - though it should be a pleasure - to do what you can to improve the lives of these people: with valuable advice, reduced prices, and reviews of new products and services. The only way to do this is by staying in touch.
Customer reverence is felt by the heart and planned by…

Last year while celebrating Thanksgiving with my family, instead of the norm of one person giving grace, I tried something different and that is simply this. Go around the room and everybody states aloud one thing that they are grateful for and then keep going to the last person has spoken. If they can speak, then they can participate. When we say it to ourselves God hears it, when we say it out loud others hear it and it's a positive affirmation.
This is win/win many times over.…

I remember many years ago after my then 5 year old son Little Dennis was killed. At that point, I had many adversities in my life but this topped them all by a landslide. I believe that this is the worst tragedy that could befall any parent. While reaching out to find answers and find my purpose in life, I reached out to many people, Zig Ziglar, Tony Robbins, Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, Dr. Denis Waitley, Connirae Andreas, Foster Hibbard and many others all of which were more than happy to lend a…

It's about 5 am on Tuesday morning November 25th, 2008. As my eyes flicker open I realize as I do everyday how fortunate I am and give thanks to the universe for allowing me the opportunity one more time to make a difference in the world. This time next week I will be on an 18 event speaking tour and I am so excited because I am living my dream. Who would have thought that a little bad boy from Spokane Washington would end up traveling the world inspiring others to be all that they can…

An article appeared at http://is.gd/8TZf outline a survey of 1700 anonymous USA voters who felt the abilities of President-Elect Barack Obama vs. the ability of Sen. John McCain in the public speaking arena weighed heavily on their choice of whom they would elect.
The conclusion of the article is that 'Public Speaking is Back in Style' - that poor speakers are now held to a higher standard than they have been in years. Whether our presidential election was decided by public speaking…

1. Make sure you are getting bids only from licensed, bonded and insured contractors.
2. Getting referrals from friends, family and neighbors who have had work done can be helpful.
3. Ask for references!! Then call the references you are given.
4. Make sure the contractor you choose has an equipment trailer, or other means to haul any and all tools and supplies he may need. It costs you money if the contractor has to continually run to his office, or Home Depot to pick up things…

This is directly related to my job as reporter for the SR: I'm searching for examples of area retailers chaning gears or kicking it up a notch to spur consumer interest this holiday season.
Kits Cameras, for instance, will print out photos for 5cents on tuesday or thursday the rest of the year.
Anyone else doing something interesting in the retail sector here?

Most of us find ourselves in front of a speaker on a weekly basis or more - preachers, CEO's, politicians, newscasters - and occasionally in front of a 'motivational speaker', 'expert trainer', or 'celebrity expert'.
Try as we might to keep up with them, too often we're put to sleep, or annoyed beyond what we can bear.
What annoys YOU about speakers?
What phrase do you hope you never hear out of a speaker again?
and...if you're their friend, are you brave…

That message, as I say on my voice mail
is the $50,000.00 question! One of the greatest laws that you can live and believe is the more that you give, the more you receive. You can call it the law of attraction, boomerang effect, sewing and reaping or whatever. The great thing about it whenever you enrich the life of someone else your life is also enriched. I see this time after time, day after day.
At church today Pastor Will spoke on "Always Be Ready", always be ready…

5. Take the 6 kids to the Christmas Tree in RiverPark Square
4. Buy a book at Auntie's
3. Watch Dark Knight at the Garland (should be there by now, right?)
2. Take my wife to Cathay Inn
1. Take myself to Zips - Bacon Dbl Cheeseburger, onion rings, mmmmm-baby. So much better than the "burgers and fish" signs indicated when we first moved there...
Anybody have better suggestions? Can you recommend something SpokaNew for me?

My family and I are looking forward to returning to Spokane - we have missed the Garland Theatre, the Wagon Slide, and, of course, the wonderful people and businesses that make Spokane a wonderful place to live and grow a business!

I think most would agree that over the course of time, real estate has proven to be one of the most consistent for return on investment. People may not be buying homes as quickly as in the past but the activity is still much better in our area than nationwide. We are also blessed with better than average increases and/or decreases in property values.
Investment into your personal property will always be a good one so please keep us in mind for those you know that may be looking to…

With consumer confidence in decline, demand for service at the Better Business Bureau is booming. To keep up with the demand, the BBB serving Eastern Washington, North Idaho and Montana is looking for full and part-time assistance in several different capacities. The positions require great communication and multitasking skills. The perfect candidate is someone who has a positive phone presence, good computer office skills, and the ability to remain impartial and objective in stressful…
