ATTN Military Families: Tricare Name Used in Lottery Scam
Did you get a letter from “Tricare” in the mail claiming you’ve won $250,000 in a U.S. lottery? It’s a scam. Tricare is real, but the check in this mailing is fake.

4th of July Fireworks and Pets
Last night I heard the fireworks begin and ran for the cupboard for the remedy to help Domingo as he
began to shake and look for a safe place to run. Many of you may have the same situation with your pets. Today I received this email from Mary J. Getten, an animal communicator that I…

Do You Use Online Discount Sites and Warehouse Clubs to Save Money?
Like one in four Americans, I have diabetes. Like many of you, money is tight right now for our family. So when our new insurance refused to pay for the whole number of test strips I go through in a day, I started shopping around for the best out-of-pocket deal.
A lady on a diabetes forum told me about American Diabetes Wholesale, which sells 200 test strips for…

Spokane Employers Have One Up on Seattle…
You don’t have to live in Spokane for very long to sense the competition between the East and West. So I was pretty happy the other day when Jack Kaplan from WorkSource Spokane told me that only he and another person in the Tri-Cities were certified to assist employers in the recruiting and hiring process using state of the art assessment processes. Jack is the author of a recent white paper, “…

Candidate Coaching and Prescreening ~ Persistant or a bother?
Follow-up, what does that mean for your job search in 2012?
Did you send a thank you card or email? No? Most people don't but SHOULD. One phone call or email is all you should do.
If we don't respond there IS a reason. Could be one of many - we haven't made our selection yet, we don't like you, in my case sometimes I haven't heard back from my client. If you bother me and I just haven't made a selection, you just might have helped me eliminate a candidate. :(
What…

Candidate Coaching and Prescreening ~ Phone attitude
As a recruiter i call hundreds of applicants a month to try to set up interviews. As a job seeker you need to "turn on" your good attitude and smile when you talk on the phone. Anyone out there remember that rule, "Smile when you are on the phone". If I have a not so great phone conversation with a candidate i make note of it and take that into consideration before making a decision.
Sometimes i change my mind mid call and don't bring that person in for an interview. …

Website Usability Redefined
Today’s brands do their best to build websites that cater to their customers. They use targeted research data, purchasing-trend analytics and other complicated formulas to build out content and website flow that will not only attract customers but engage them as well. The goal of this careful website craftsmanship is to make self-service effortless and enjoyable for customers and profitable for the company.
The problem for most websites is not a lack of content but rather the…

Using Unpaid Interns in your Company
Now that summer is coming and schools are letting out for summer many companies look to use unpaid interns. While this seems like a great idea in theory, there are laws the companies need to be aware of to keep themselves out of trouble.
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) governs workers and lets us know when an employee should be classified as an employee or an intern. Within the FLSA the term trainees is used rather than interns so many people don’t think the law applies to…

Candidate Coaching and Prescreening ~ Recruiting with no voice
So far this week has been very interesting. Monday I had such a sore throat that it hurt to talk and today I have no voice. I have many positions to fill so I am scheduling interviews for later this week with the hope that my voice will be back.
Interesting thing is that the candidates email me their resumes but don't check their emails for a response. I know that the normal request from a recruiter is a phone call.
If you give us a phone and email address, you have to be…

Real Estate websites and Search Engines
For all our Realtor fans, or those that know a Realtor: did you know that many Realtors choose to have a "cookie cutter" website from one of the providers that has pre-branded websites or iFrame solutions, that uses listing data hosted and shared, on the providers servers, that link back to the providers servers? Many don't realize this, and when the search engines "crawl" their website, the links that are being indexed may be for the provider, and not the actual Realtor. The solution: a…
