Downtown Branch of the Spokane Public Library Now Open on Mondays!

For the first time since 2004, the Downtown branch of the Spokane Public Library is open on Mondays. Aside from the standard expressions of glee from our customers, the next most common question is "How is the library able to provide more service in such an economic downturn? Did you guys manage to get a budget increase?"

The answer is no, we did not get a budget increase. We are doing more with less through a combination of getting by with fewer staff per open hour, training… Continue

Motive [s] = Priority [s]

Some time ago I was attending a 'Sales Presentation' workshop. Some may say it was an over-priced rah-rah session. This is certainly a reasonable label – though there is always GOLD within the context the trick is to dig until you do find it.

This particular speaker was talking about core values & how these will accurately drive our thoughts and actions. At one point he stopped moving...stopped talking...took the mic in his hand and addressed the audience straight and… Continue

Neighbors - Finding the Muse to Grow

Neighbors. As I was growing up, I experienced the true love of neighbors. In fact, our family still is in contact with neighbors from my youth. True neighbors become family. Family helps each other weather the storms and grow through the challenges.

I remember mowing lawns, getting groceries for the shut ins, sharing food, running errands, and sharing dreams till they came out of my ears... shades of Norman Rockwell where humans felt the human experiences together. It may seem… Continue

The Young, Hot Victoria

Ms. Jones had planned to go home after her hair appointment with Sonna at Jaaz Salon and indulge yet another night in the joys of unpacking boxes and hanging art in her new digs, but a telephone call from S. lured her like the siren's song to an historical movie, her favorite kind, for Ms. Jones loves, loves, loves to be transported to another time and place and, oh! the costumes.

My prediction: 2010 is the year for “personality marketing”.

But before I discuss your appeal to your customer, let me tell you about my dear friend Mike. It’s my personal experience about the power of social media.

I met Mike in an online forum. (This was during the ancient days of 2006 when Facebook was exclusively for college kids). There were business questions posted in the forum,… Continue
