Kerri McIntosh, Creative & Administrative Professional

About Me

I am a native of the Inland Northwest, having lived here all but six years of my life.  Those six years have been during my adulthood, so I'm not joking when I say I am truly of this region.  Part of my direct line has been in the inland northwest since 1878, in fact.

My involvement in social issues began at the age of nine, when I helped my mother at her office, typing letters with a style book at my side, one keystroke at a time.  This led to work with the local Christmas charity she founded, which is still in operation today.  Other positions followed, including two years of work at a homeless shelter, political campaign work, and efforts to establish a local tenants' union.  I've also done advocacy for Spokane's neediest citizens, tenants, women and children, at all levels of government and served as a board member or council member.

Spending much of a decade doing contract work, I developed a vast knowledge base that allows me to be flexible and fit into just about any professional environment, from laid-back casual to highly corporate.  I am an energetic, dedicated professional in anything I do, and have a genuine appreciation of the people around me and their ideas.  My pursuit of a dual degree in sociology and psychology reflects my wish to address social issues on a more personal level.

Interests include writing, social media, live music and theater, jewelry making and fashion reconstruction in addition to those activities listed above.  I have been my family's unofficial historian since 1978, when a cousin's charts attracted my interest at a reunion at Manito Park.

What Have You Done For YOU Lately?

One of the best pieces of advice I've ever learned about the job search is to promote myself the way that I would promote a business.  While many people swing to the extreme one way or the other in doing so, either understating their qualifications or burying their interviewer in bombast, it is imperative to find a spot somewhere in the middle, a place where each person involved can feel comfortable.

At one point, I would never have thought to include my experiences running a fan club…

Helping Others Seeking Work - A Worthwhile Pursuit!

Rhonda Byrnes' "The Secret" claims that the basic key to everything is attraction - we attract that which is part of our lives.  While I believe that to some extent, I do also believe that sometimes things in life are like the toilet paper on our shoes - they come along for the ride, without our encouragement.  Or, as John Lennon put it once upon a time, "Life is what happens when you're making other plans."

Take for example those who cope daily with disabilities of many kinds, not…

My Mission Statement, Of Sorts

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 1:30pm 3 Comments

As a non-traditional college student returning to the work force, seeking fulfilling work opportunities has been quite a challenge.  My skills are diverse, but like my hero, Gilda Radner, I am willing to embrace change and challenges.

It seems to me that many in the Spokane area need competent help that enters the world of work with a fearless determination to succeed, but because I have not held regular employment in the last few years, they are not willing to consider me for…

Kerri, I am an Employment Recruiter/Vocational Specialist at Skils'kin. My clients are referred to our organization through the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation or the Division of Developmental Disabilities. Are you working through either of these organizations or have you looked into it?
