They’re Not All Bad—Really!

BBB Spokesman Review Column for October 31, 2010Jan Quintrall, President/CEO BBB jquintrall@spokane.bbb.orgThese days it is too easy to beat up on corporations; they are obvious targets, right behind politicians and the nastiness of the campaigns. Just two more days, and the negative, misleading and often just plain false ads will stop. This election has been torture and I am glad to see it all end. Just be sure the spew does not turn you into a nonvoter; you still have a voice and an opinion,…See More

BBB Spokesman Review Column for October 17, 2010

Jan Quintrall, President/CEO BBB jquintrall@spokane.bbb.org

I love email: simply love it. It is my favorite way to communicate. It saves time, as I can send my entire board of directors a quick update in minutes rather than making 15 phone calls. I can shoot a quick funny comment to my daughter and make her smile once in the day. I can offer insightful commentary on a current event to my husband and know I will receive a response… Continue

BBB Spokesman Review Column for September 5, 2010

Jan Quintrall, President BBB jquintrall@spokane.bbb.org

If you share your personal email address with companies you frequent, chances are you have received a survey about your level of satisfaction regarding a recent transaction. Interesting things, these surveys.

Let’s look at them from the opposite point of view. For businesses, surveys can be valuable tools, even though they’re not always statistically accurate nor… Continue

Hi Jan. I was wondering if you have had any complaints about Kirby Salespeople in the Spokane area? My neighborhood seems to be "under attack" by these crazy salespeople and we had a few break ins after they were seen going door to door. I live in a new development called the Terrace at Canyon Bluffs that is off the beaten path and hard to find. They were here a few weeks ago and I just heard they were back yesterday. Our neighborhood is close and we all email each other. Their whole sales pitch seems like a scam to get into your house. Just wanted you to be aware...

Hey Jan!
It's nice to see you. I enjoy your column. I am writing one too, for the Coeur d'Alene Press as the spokesman for the Cd'A Association of REALTORS. I want to thank the BBB for the successful mediation of a consumer complaint I filed. After the altercations with the "service: provider, I couldn't believe your folks mediated such a speedy resolution.

You have clearly given good direction to our BBB and it seems like just yesterday we welcomed you into our business community. Good job!

Jan: Loved your BBB piece about Intellectual Property in the Business Section of today's Spokesman. A simple way of protecting plans or other written materials in simply to put one's name, the date, and a "circle C" copyright symbol on the item (I prefer the lower left or lower right hand corner). In reality, the item is protected by copyright the moment one's idea is placed into a tangible medium (e.g. in writing). However, if one marks the item as such, that puts users on notice that it is protected and gives one a bit more leverage. Greg
