Comment by Larry Vierra on March 21, 2011 at 5:51pm The vulnerability that Ed speaks about "Psybot" is the only so called home router attack that has surfaced in the wild, and it showed up in March 2009. It gets through usually by way of not changing the default login Admin password or else an easily cracked Admin password. The fix is to update the firmware or change the password to something hard to guess. This one bug "Psybot" payload would cause an infected system to become a botnet, droid used for a denial-of-service attack on bigger web-servers. I have not heard or read about any worms coming through a router to cause a malicious infection or ever cause a loss of data.
