Landie, I too am in the middle of The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest and I love this series. It is great to read this book set in Sweden. I find I am on the computer finding photos of the country to have a visual experience as well. I also like that the complexity of the book is stretching my memory in keeping all the characters straight.

With all the hipe on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I decided to read it. It took about 60 pages to really get good but after that I couldn't put it down. I liked the book so much that I even saw the movie - it was a foreign film with sub titles and was very well made. The second book The Girl who Played with Fire was excelent also. I'm working on the third in the seris The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest and it is a little slow right now. I would recommend the series.

I recently read The Passage by Justin Cronin. This is quite an epic - 784 pages, but well worth the read. It's one of those in-depth reads that pulls you in and you're sorry to see it end. It may be the first of a trilogy.

The premise is post--apocalyptic America overrun by an experiment gone bad. If you enjoyed Stephen King's The Stand, you will probably like The Passage. It truly goes in depth with character development and themes, which can tend to bog down at times, but just keep reading and it moves along to the next twist fairly quickly.

Hey Natalie -- Welcome to the group and thanks for the recommendation! I've read a number of Gawande's articles in the New Yorker and he's a fabulous writer. Just this morning I picked up the latest issue of the magazine and started reading Gawande's latest work. It has to do with end of life care and the role of modern medicine in improving that period of time rather than making it a shop of horrors.

Just joined the group. Would like to recommend Atul Gawande's bestseller, "The Checklist Manifesto." I loved it and am sure that most anyone in today's world would be interested and entertained by it.

Watched the movie The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo the evening I finished the book. It was a great foreign film. The violent scenes were a little hard to handle but a good time to add some hot water to my tea in another room. I loved the casting in the movie, especially the actress that played Salander. Hurried on to the next book in the series which my friend said was the best of the three. Makes me want to go to a week long retreat and begin writing fiction and leave my non-fiction writing for awhile!

Stieg Larsson's trilogy (The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest -- is a great read for summer., I thoroughly enjoyed all three of these books an only hope that in 5 years after his death, his father and brother and life-long partner, who controls a partially written 4th novel by Larsson, can come to terms so that we can enjoy his final book and he may rest in peace.

Tine --

Welcome to the group! We don't have an exchange set up but if you wanted to list the titles you have available in a Discussion Forum I'd say plow ahead.

Just joined the group. Always looking for my next best read. Does this group have a book exchange at LauchPad? I've got a few I'm done with and would love to pick up some new reads from others wanting to trade theirs in.
