In addition to the meetings, I would be interested in being involved in a WordPress Workshop sometime. Perhaps like WordCamp. We could have different sessions for different levels of experience and interest. Developers, newbies, one for business owners who aren't developers, but want to learn a little more about how to use their WordPress websites.

I am in the process of writing a guide for my clients to refer to when they want to make edits or minor changes to their sites. WP is so easy to use that anyone who is familiar with the web can use it, but they still needs some guidance.

Since this group is new, I think we should wait until it has a larger base, but this would be very useful for a lot of people.

Hi Jeff; I am the director for the Inland Northwest Press Club. Your workshop idea would be an excellent event for our group. Let's continue developing your idea.
I would like to help you write some of the material for the procedures (Step by Step) Guide. I think it would be exciting.
@jeff. forgot to put that there

I would like to be involved with meetings and the workshop if you are still thinking about it.

As someone who blogs via WordPress.com, I would love to learn more about using WordPress from heavy users.  Maybe you could float the idea over on the Marketing forum?

If and when you do plan a workshop, please let me know.

The community has grown a bit, so perhaps I'll do so in the next few months after I get a couple monkeys off my back.

Be assured that I'll be letting everyone know.

Hi Jeff!

There's a  Word Camp in Seattle tomorrow.  I'm not going, but it will be Live Streamed.  If anyone wants to watch it together, my apt complex has a room we could meet in.

Do people actually hire people to make WordPress sites in Spokane? That would be interesting. The company I was working for had me revamp their site and I used WordPress as an experiment, it looked fairly decent... Now that I'm gone of course someone has attempted to update the site and broken every page. So much for my portfolio.

Still, I'd love to attend a WordPress workshop, I've got a couple of sites I'm preparing to roll out soon and it would be nice to be up to date on that.

@Michael I don't think most business owners know to ask for WordPress, but there are many people using it as a content management system. I've found that I can get most things done very easily with it, though I have reached some limits in more custom websites.

I think for 90% of websites, WordPress is a perfect solution. For more custom web applications, Ruby on Rails is what I am focusing on learning right now for my own apps.

I'm curious what topics people might want to learn about in a workshop. I think I would like start planning this.

A few different focus areas based on users -

WordPress for Website Owners

WordPress for Designers

WordPress for Developers

Areas people might want to learn about -

Themes

Plugins

Performance

SEO

Security

Please post and let me know what you are interested in.
