Let's come up with a list of resources to help people and companies who haven't used social media before to understand what it is all about.

The resources can be presentations, videos, whatever.

To start off the discussion I have two resources for the list:

"Social Media Revolution" (video)

I will also be conducting a FREE Twitter 101 workshop sometime next week for the benefit of beginners and intermediate Tweeters. Stay tuned for more details, as I finalize the venue.
Hi All -

Great idea! For those with some Twitter experience:

http://twibes.com allows you to create "groups" of like minded tweeters so that you can create a community and have discussions, conversations on topics that are a passion/priority for you. Either join an ongoing group or found a new one. Different applications are in development and they are open to your requests and input.

What is the point of Twibes?

How is Twibes different from hashtags and lists?

I recommend you check it out!

OK, the details are set in stone. The Twitter 101 Workshop will on Jan 15th, 11am-1pm at the ITT Technical Institute, Spokane Valley. Register here --> http://webprofitengineer.com/twitter101f/

Agenda will cover:

- What is Twitter?
- Why do I need Twitter for my business?
- How do I find people/followers?
- How do I use it with Facebook, LinkedIn, Launchpad, etc.
- What do I say?
- How do I find the time?
These two resources have been valuable for keeping me up-to-date:

Now if you are using several social media accounts and want to manage your time try
http://hootsuite.com

You can post to several accounts, follow your lists, create & save lists, as well as schedule your posts!
Great help for getting it done and saving time.

Also - http://cotweet.com allows several folks to add and manage the same account - great for businesses and customer service.

I have just been reading Joel Comm's new edition of his book Twitter Power 2.0. Now I've been using Twitter for a long time ( what is a long time in Twitter history - two years, a year, 6 months? - How long have you been on?)

Joel has some excellent tips for those of us using Twitter to market a business.
Right now you can get it for under $10.00 at Amazon.
Twitter Power 2.0: How to Dominate Your Market One Tweet at a Time' by Joel Comm ... http://amzn.to/afdJSJ

He has detailed sections on how to get started intentionally - walking you through each step for beginners and then taking you into advanced strategies. By exploring the use of Twitter from many angles, it is possible to design a strategy that is useful for you, your business and your clients.

A sample of a beginner section: Getting Started the Tight Way covers what name to use, how to create a personalized background, how to complete your profile and use it to brand you, choosing your picture and many more tips to utilize Twitter to your best advantage.

For more advanced users he discusses "the art of the tweet" building a list of followers and engaging in conversations, not just broadcasting announcements, reporting on activities or being the sage. Those are useful and can be mixed into your flow of tweets, yet most of us want to interact in conversation and drive results.

Joel discusses how to discover your fans and promoters of your brand, how to make loyal followers out of those who may not know you as well as using Twitter for your micro help desk. For him it is all about the connections and conversations. He used Twitter to write his book and the tips he shares transfer to many areas of business.

Joel discusses successful uses (many of which are now famous social media examples http://kogibbq.com) as well as the tweets people have made that get them in trouble and cost them a client or a service (a comment about tossing the PC magazine into the trash without reading resulted in this person loosing the magazine as a client pg 134)

Advanced topics include further branding ideas, promoting your blog and website without spamming, using special offers to attract customers, and tools to track your success and status.

Twitter Power 2.0 is an educational read for anyone considering using Twitter successfully and a great inspiration for strategically using as part of your Social Media toolbox.

Joel is one of my long-time favorites, been following him for years. He's all about the business of social media, but hasn't lost his sense of humor in the process.

In fact, the Spokane Chapter of PRSA has been working with Joel to (hopefully) organize a multi-state Joel Comm "tour." it's still in the tentative stage, so we'd appreciate feedback on people's interest in a Joel Comm event here in Spokane.

PRSA is also sponsoring a Social Media BootCamp THURSDAY, MAY 12, 7:30-noon, with national social media measurement guru and author Katie Paine. Info and tickets available at spokaneprsa.org, but sign up soon, time's running out. Here's the link: http://prsaspokane.org/?page_id=161

The link below is to a Facebook and Twitter guidebook from Mashable. Since everyone enters Twitter and Facebook for different reasons, and at a different level of understanding I find these resources helpful (and they are regularly updated which is a plus). Hope you can put them to good use!
