I am wondering why you would be scared? To my knowledge no hunting season or target shooting has been authorized in any area of the park system. It would seem the right to carry a weapon for safety is the primary issue.

OK, I know this is an old discussion, but I have to comment. As a single woman, horseback riding and camping in the wilderness alone, it never even crosses my mind to NOT take my gun. As defense against critters 4 legged or two legged, as a means of survival to attain food in an extreme situation, or worst case scenario having to put one of my horses down. I bought a hand gun designed to accomplish all of the above with (hopefully) one well placed shot. It is also a great way to signal for help. I don't see guns as a danger, they are tools.
