Hello Non-Profit Community --
A quick alert that y'all may be interested in: the Spokane City Council is set to vote this coming Monday on the funding for human services in 2009. As things stand right now, it looks like they will increase human services funding for our local non-profits and faith-based agencies from roughly $820,000 dollars to an even $1 million dollars. Given the economic times we are in, I find it to be an heroic effort on the part of the Mayor and Council to
increase funding at all. If you would care to put in a plug for this increased support, this
link will take you to the page with the email contacts for the City Council members. Just a very brief note carries a lot of impact.
If you want the full version of why I think the funding is critical, there is a nice discussion on
Marty Dickinson's post about the
ban on panhandling in Spokane's downtown core.
