To the nightlife community:

As part of my hobby of producing music concerts in Spokane, my nonprofit organization is hosting two concerts this Friday night, July 1 at Aclub in downtown Spokane (416 W. Sprague - upstairs).  So, if you are not heading out of town, you might want to check these out:

1.  Solid State Records Tour featuring Atlanta's BECOMING THE ARCHETYPE, Cleveland's INHALE EXHALE, and North Carolina's TO SPEAK OF WOLVES.  This is an early (6 PM start) all ages show featuring technical metalcore bands - yes, not everyone's cup of tea, but featuring bands that are very accomplished in that genre.  Tickets are $10 in advance and $13 at the door.

2.  A late (10 PM) 21+ show featuring a band from France, DINNER AT THE THOMPSON'S, which features a female jazz singer (Lucille Tee) and a male multi-instrumentalist (Fablive), who writes material in a hip hop vein, resulting in some songs that are old-fashioned smoky jazz, and some that are contemporary jazz/hip hop fusion.  This show is just $5 at the door.

Thanks for reading.  Enjoy your Fourth of July holiday.

Car d'Lane is this weekend. Who is coming downtown Cda to watch the parade of classic cars? Now it just needs to be 1972 or earlier to be "classic". Guess that makes ME classic! :)

Hereare some details on the weekend activities.

Hey Music and Nightlifers --

A quick question for you:  Your Spokane Public Library is considering purchasing a subscription to a downloadable music service called Freegal (rhymes with legal because it's, well, free and legal).  For a flat yearly fee that the library would pick up, city library card holders would be able to access the entire current and historical Sony music catalog (500,000+ tracks, 50+ labels).  With a city resident library card and an Internet connection you'd be able to download three mp3 tracks per week per library card.  That means that if you have four people in your household and each of you have a library card then you'd be looking at 12 tracks per week -- totally free to you.  You could then put the tracks on your iPod, burn 'em to a CD, what have you.  Also, you wouldn't have to worry about the Recording Industry Association's lawyers knocking on your door to let you know you are being sued for illegally downloading music.  Freegal is legal and there would be a payment agreement in place between Freegal, the library, Sony, and the represented artists.  So yes, the musicians do get paid!

What would the content look like, you ask?  You would get current chart toppers like Billy Joel, Adele, Mumford & Sons, The Avett Brothers, Chris Brown, etc., as well as historical heavyweights like Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Pearl Jam, Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys, etc.  Whoever Sony represents, you'd have access to it.

But here's the deal: before we spring for this (it is a pretty expensive subscription) we want to test the waters and see if this is something that would have broad appeal.  Is this something that you'd use?

To keep inbox clutter to a minimum, if you would put your responses and/or questions up in the "Discussion Forum" titled "Freegal" that would help keep all of our inboxes nice and tidy.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts you might want to share!
