Hello Leadership Spokane Alums --

$5,000 is how much the 2009 - 2010 Leadership Spokane Human Needs SCAN team has raised in an effort to put in a community garden at the Salvation Army.  Thanks to the many of you who have already contributed.  For those of you who aren't familiar with the "Salvation Farmy" project, here is a link to a sketch of the garden plans and here's our blog: http://salvationfarmy.blogspot.com/

We are wrapping up the fundraising phase and are in sight of the finish line.  That said, there are a few big-ticket items that we still need.  Namely, a tool shed and a garden fence.  If your company has funds available for community projects, my completely unbiased view is that this would be a great one to support.  See the blog for the full explanation of just how awesome community gardens are, especially this particular one.

In terms of concrete actions that you as a supporter can take, you can contact me directly for a discussion of the garden's needs (444.5312, mpond@spokanelibrary.org, here on Launchpad) or within 45 seconds from the time you read this you can donate to the project via Leadership Spokane's PayPal account.  Just indicate that the funds are for the Salvation Farmy.  Easy.  Quick.  Greatly appreciated.

If you're looking for an even bigger sponsorship opportunity, the Salvation Army and the SCAN team recently learned that all of the Salvation Army's landscape irrigation water is coming from their transitional housing main line and as such they are being charged sewage rates on all that water.  In addition to building the community garden, we'd like to fix that and put the money saved toward Salvation Army's housing, food bank and foster care programs.  Interested?  Let's talk.

Mark,
This is a great project and I applaud you for it. Best wishes on your mission. Count on my prayers and if finances permit I will be happy to contribute to this worthy cause. I will also keep my ears and eyes open for others who may be able to help you and put them in touch with you. It is all about networking and getting the word out about where the need is.

Sincerely,

Thanks for the support, Tami!

Sometime in the last month (after working on this off and on since October of last year) I officially hit the point where I realized that if this sort of thing were really easy, someone else would have already done it!

Many thanks for helping to spread the word through the Feed Spokane group.

Cheers,
Mark
Thanks Mark for all your hard work and dedication to this valuable project!
