EVENT DESCRIPTION

Yes our summer is behind us and fall is in the air. Our October 23rd program has a legal focus and will provide information to help prevent consultants "falling" into legal struggles.

What business form should I choose? What should I include in an engagement letter? What kind of language should I put in my invoices? Do I need an employment agreement? How can I market my business? Legally, what kind of information can I put on World Wide Web? What are the copyright boundaries of the WWW? Do I need a trademark? What is e-discovery?

Paine Hamblen attorney, Greg Johnson, will lead an interesting discussion that will provide answers to these business law questions.

Gregory Johnson is Of Counsel to Paine Hamblen LLP, and serves as the chair of the firm's E-Discovery and Document Retention practice group. Greg advises a broad range of clients on e-discovery and document management; legal technology issues such as the Internet, electronic commerce, computer hardware and software; intellectual property (primarily copyright, trademark and trade secrets) business and energy law. He also has extensive complex litigation experience. Greg was named one of Washington's best Intellectual Property and best Energy attorneys by Washington CEO Magazine. He consults, writes and lectures on various technology issues and has done so since 1985. Greg received a B.A. in History from Marietta College in 1976 and his J.D. from University of Puget Sound Law School in 1983. Greg serves on several local Boards and enjoys spending time with his family and friends and sculling on the Spokane River.

In addition, Ron Anderson will be our CPN highlighted member and will share information regarding his consulting business.

Social media is not a fleeting fascination specific to a generation—it’s the catalyst responsible for a fundamental shift in the function and viability of public relations and marketing over the past decade.

Desautel Hege Communications (DHC), an integrated public relations firm headquartered in Spokane, is excited to share insight into this shift and how consultants can utilize an integrated mix of social media, traditional placed media, earned media, community outreach, branding and messaging, research and more to effectively communicate with audiences. DHC will provide invaluable insight into the ways audiences absorb information in the

Social Media Era and overview advanced messaging called Point of View used to achieve thought leadership. Social media is a harbinger of the future communications landscape. DHC is excited to share a window into that future and how to effectively harness

the tools that will carry us there.

Suggesting the thought of consultants as PART of an organizations tools/resources could move business leaders and owners to view consultants as people who add value not as an expense?

Anyone who is looking into becoming a consultant I encourage you to visit with several people who have been doing this work successfully. You may even visit with some who have not been successful . . . there is something to be learned there too.  CPN members are successful in consulting and each one of us would gladly visit with you to assist you on your way.
