Have you been dislocated from your job within the last two years? Looking for Work? Are you receiving unemployment benefits? Have you lost your job because of business closure or mass layoff?  If so, please call or email Patricia Robinson at WorkSource Spokane for more information.  509 532-3024, probinson@esd.wa.gov.  We have a grant available that may be able to assist you with job placement and/or short term training.

Recruiting two commission sales positions.  Great first time sales job.  Lots of calls and emails.  Women's association needing help through February.

I'm new to LaunchPadINW and am looking for employment.  As a result, I am open to new ideas, perspectives and opportunities.  I volunteer with a couple of organizations whose staff and advisory board members come from a variety of backgrounds.  I may have interesting information that I can share to help other folks in their transitions, too.

Career Bridge -- accredited training programs throughout WA  If you are considering (re)training toward a career, check out Career Bridge.  It can give you the 'consumer reports' type of information on specific training programs at specific state schools.  This site pairs enrollment & completion information with employment system data and reflects employment success of students and starting wage information.  Its not perfect, but it's an ever-improving great resource.

Sorry for the delayed reply to your response, Patrick.

I'm not sure who Joe is but I'll go ahead and field your comment.

Candidly, my desired audience is everyone in the community. I am sincerely trying to breath a little life into the place. Zero activity level leads to zero potential to be exposed to a bit of information that will lead to someone learning something that could help in their search or even learn of an opportuntiy to explore based on a comment on the wall.

I am still open to hearing from anyone and everyone on the topic.

I would love to hear from Direct marketers, ex- direct marketers and those like John D. who have not been involved in Direct marketing.

I really want to tkae the pulse of people as to their thoughts on the question as it was posed.  Is direct marketing a legitimate career option?

The reason I asked people currently in the industry to refrain from mentioning their business is: I didn't want the questions to turn inot a name dropping/marketing opportunity.  (like you did)

From a career perspective I want to know what people think about Direct Marketing as a whole.  Good, bad or indifferent.

Thank you for your input, Patrick

It sounds like your wife has had some good success in the industry but you bring up the topic of income tax and healthcare.

That's the kind of comments I am searching for.

RE: income taxes:  Direct Marketers are held to the same tax standards as any 1099 earning opportunity

RE: Healthcare:  Direct marketers are self insured. I don't know if there are group plans available if several people in the same industry were to petition a provider for such a plan. Might be worth looking into.

I will post another topic for discussion soon.

Joe - I think your desired audience might be honoring your request not to make a sales pitch. It's almost inherent if they're enthusiastic about their product. My wife is one of few "Wildtree" reps in the area, having brought it with us when we moved here in 2010. She's been at it overall since late 2007 and now reliably brings home more than I do. Not bad for something that started with only a since interest in the healthy food products they offer and the social aspect of getting some time among peers (and a break from the kids).
To your questions though: perhaps you can use survey-monkey to list them and then post the survey-monkey link here? Just a thought.
Direct sales, as a career path, does leave the topics of health care and appropriately covering your income tax as considerations. For us, it's been a boon.

Thanks John. I appreciate your reply. A spark perhaps, to set the gears in motion.

It was just brought to my attention (off line) that someone else was not familiar with "direct marketing".

For clarity's sake Direct Marketing for those who don't follow this market segment is also referred to as multi-level or network marketing.
