Like magic! Thanks Jeff. Funny thing, I found that page originally.. but couldn't find the large video file. Trying again it's plain as day.

So... I have dragged a video into Keynote, and it runs. But there are no controls. I can start and stop the video. Any hints to get more controls (ff, rev)?

Can anyone recommend:

  1. A way to download YouTube videos to the Mac
  2. How to embed any video in a Keynote presentation

Thanks!

Thanks June! We're doing our best to post our class schedule here along with Facebook.

For those that don't know, we offer a Free Intro-to-Mac class on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month at 1pm. The first 45 minutes is an overview of Mac OS X, with 15 minutes of Question & Answer. All are welcome, regardless of where you purchased your Mac, or if you're thinking of switching to a Mac.

I attended the seminar given by the Mac store on Sprague, Strong Computing and I learned about the new mac box set I just installed. I recommend this class. June Swatzell, founder OurTownZip.com

Sam --

I don't have an iPhone so I'm flying blind here but I'll go out on a limb and say yes, you can take .pdf ebooks and read them on your iPhone. Details are here: http://www.mbrainsoftware.com/iPhone/Pdf/Pdf.htm

Hey Apple-ers.

Just wanted to let y'all know that the Spokane Public Library has over 5,100 downloadable audiobook titles available. Of that number, 2,970 are in the mp3 format, making them ipad/iphone/ipod compatible. By my rough calculation, that's about a lifetime of listening right there. The titles span the range from scholarly nonfiction to popular fiction to titles for children and teens.

Also, we worker bees at the library are starting to dip our toes into the downloadable ebook format. We have just over 300 titles that can be downloaded to any device that can handle .pdf files (will require downloading Adobe® Digital Editions 1.7.1 or higher). This includes most readers such as ipads, nooks, etc.

Will the ebooks work on a Kindle, you ask? Yes and no. Since the Kindle uses Amazon's proprietary file format of .AZW, you will have to convert the .pdf file to .AZW before you can view the text on a Kindle. Awkward, but the good news is that it can be done! There are some good instructions on how to do that here: http://www.novapdf.com/kb/send-pdf-to-kindle-213.html

In terms of content, the ebook collection is almost exclusively nonfiction titles right now -- including a line-up of the ...For Dummies series -- but we will be looking to add popular fiction titles as well. Stay tuned for that.

To get to this fabulous, mobile content, this is probably the best place to start: http://www.spokanelibrary.org/index.php?page=eaudiobooks Note: if you live outside the city limits but have a Spokane Public Library card, send me a note and we can chat about your options for gaining access to this downloadable content. Also, do let me know if you have any trouble in getting your account set up -- the registration process isn't the most fluid experience you will ever have. Yet. We're leaning on the database vendor to make the process more intuitive.

Dang. When I started writing this it was really going to just be a quick comment. But seeing how long this is I think I'll pop on over to the blog side of LaunchPad and turn this a blog post. Sorry about the screen filler!

Geocaching with my iPad

Most of you probably know what Geocashing is. I however was behind the times. When I received my 3g iPad from Apple some friends of mine suggested the Groundspeak Project Geocaching app. I have to tell you that this has been one of the most used apps I have. My 10 year old daughter thinks this is the best thing in the world to treasure hunt, you would think we were in the movie National Treasure by her excitement level. The app is only about $10 and will provide hours of entertainment. There are over 4,000 Cashes in the Spokane area. I highly recommend this activity. It is a great way to spend some time with the family and get some exercise. To learn more about Geocashing visit their official website http://www.geocaching.com/
